Overview
The Abantwana Bethu initiative is aimed at providing much needed support to schools in the regions where Ithala operates. The aim is to entrench the Ithala brand in KwaZulu-Natal by reassuring people of KZN that Ithala cares for their wellbeing. Support could range from providing much needed school uniforms, to providing non- perishable food items to schools in desperate need of nutrition.
The Abantwanabethu Initiative comprises of the following initiatives:
Back to School Uniform
This programme aims at creating an enabling environment for learners by affording them the opportunity to focus primarily on their education and not worry about resources
StarSaver Financial Literacy Campaign
Aligned to Ithala’s vision to drive financial literacy and in the spirit of volunteerism, learners at township and rural schools are targeted with financial literacy lessons to promote the value of accumulating personal wealth and the need to save.
Women’s Month Sanitary Drive
Research shows that 1 in 10 young girls often girls miss school and are forced to stay at home due to not being able to afford the monthly cost of purchasing sanitary pads. Through the IDFC sanitary drive young girls from underprivileged and rural schools throughout in KwaZulu-Natal receive the much-needed supplies of sanitary towels.
Christmas Cheer Toy Drive
This is a priceless initiative that brings joy not only to the children, but also to us as an organisation. The power of toys and educational items to stimulate creativity at an early age should never be underestimated.
