Isithebe development brings 125 job opportunities
A multi-million rand service station development at the Isithebe Industrial Estate has brought job opportunities to the people of Mandeni.
The R10-million Sasol service station development is expected to create 50 temporary jobs in the construction phase and a further 75 permanent jobs once it is completed.
Speaking at the sod-turning ceremony to mark the start of the project this week, Acting Ithala Group Chief Executive Siphiwe Madondo said the development would give the Isithebe Industrial Estate a face-lift and also boost the local economy.
“The developers of the service station have agreed to employ people from the local community in the construction of this service station. This will also result in skills transfer for the community of Mandeni,” he said.
The Mayor of Mandeni Local Municipality, Councillor Lindiwe Shabalala echoed Madondo.
“We are happy that this development will empower the local community,” she said.
Construction of the service station which to be built on land leased from Ithala is expected to be completed in the next six months.
Project Developer, Morgan Govindasami said the service station would be built according to modern specifications.
“Once completed, this service station will boast a 24-hour convenience store offering a wide range of consumer goods which will also assist the local community.”
He said the service station would act as a filling point for truckers and light motor vehicle drivers travelling on the N2 between Durban and Richards Bay.
